Cultural evening

KRL Slideshow (39) Singing and dancing play an important part in everyday life. Most songs are sung during dance parties and festivities, often accompanied by traditional Saramaccan drums. Singing and dancing go together! Most renowned is the ‘seketi’, a combination of different traditional dance forms. These are inciting group dances, in which African influences are still noticeable. A cultural evening consists of two parts. Before break time the women of Kayana perform a dance show. Do join them if you like! The second part of the programme consists mainly of percussion. The village men then give a demonstration on the different types of drums.
